MPLS VPN

What is an MPLS VPN?
MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) is a standards-based, state-of-the-art technology for building high performance private networks spanning anywhere from 10 or 20 locations across Canada to thousands of sites around the world.

With a typical MPLS VPN, each site is connected directly into a Provider Edge (PE) router in the carrier’s network.  These routers together create a private network cloud that can transmit data between any pair of sites.

Because MPLS is delivered over a private network, its standards do NOT include encryption.  Carriers and customers may choose to encrypt their data if they wish.

Quality of Service
Because the MPLS VPN is completely under the control of the carrier, the customer’s policies regarding priorities can be fully enforced across the network.  Thus MPLS networks can grant priority, even reserve fixed amounts of bandwidth, for certain types of traffic – typically VoIP, video, and mission critical packets such as payment processing.

Radiant’s MPLS VPN Service
Utilizing our Juniper Networks core routers, we design and build an MPLS VPN just for your company.  You are assigned your own virtual router inside each of our PE routers, and those virtual routers form their own private network cloud with only your traffic in it.

Options can include:
  • Quality of Service (QoS) policy enforcement
  • IPSec encryption of all traffic
  • Direct Internet access with common firewalls for all sites
  • Links to other carriers’ MPLS networks for international VPNs

All your in-Canada traffic is carried over Radiant’s multiply-redundant private backbone, further ensuring privacy and QoS.
