Business ADSL Broadband Speeds

ADSL speed is dependent on a number of different factors. We’ll explain them here and let you know what Radiant does to ensure you get the maximum speed possible.

The chart below shows the maximum port speeds available in each of Radiant’s serving areas. They differ because each ILEC (aka the “phone company”) has slightly different ADSL services.

*Some rural areas have lower port speeds than those listed in the table.

Due to technical the actual maximum speed is about 80 - 85% of the port speed in the table. For example, on a 5.0Mbps connection in Winnipeg, the max possible on a speed test is about 4.25Mbps. The quality of the telephone line and the distance you are located from the telephone company central office (CO) also factor in to determine your actual speed. The better the line and closer you are to a CO, the closer you will get to reaching maximum speed.

While we can’t pickup your business and move it closer to a CO, there are a few things that Radiant can do to ensure you get the highest speed possible:

  • We will not “shape” or throttle the traffic so as to reduce the highest speed possible, unless doing so will increase the stability of the circuit
  • We don't have home users, so our network doesn't get clogged up with people trying to download mp3s and watch home videos while you run your business
  • You don’t share bandwidth with others in your neighbourhood, like cable
  • We have multiple Internet connections to distribute traffic and alleviate congestion
